ESAI MCP
FAQ

Connection & access questions.

Common questions for partners connecting to the ESAI MCP.

My IDE can't connect to the MCP server

Check the following:

  • URL — Use the /partner/mcp URL shown on the MCP setup page, not the internal /mcp endpoint.
  • API Key header — Must be sent as X-API-Key (case-sensitive).
  • IDE version — VS Code requires the Copilot extension; Cursor requires a recent version with MCP support.
"Invalid, expired, or revoked API key"

Your key has been revoked, expired, or regenerated. Contact your Optimizely partner contact for a new key.

I can't see a module or skill I expected

Partner keys see every module and skill that isn't marked internal-only, unless your key has been scoped to a narrower list by your Optimizely contact. If something looks missing, ask them to check your key's scope.

Can I use the same API key from multiple machines?

Yes. API keys are not tied to a specific device or IP address.

I'm stuck mid-upgrade and not sure what's happening

Use the cms-upgrade-help skill — it triages against real, recurring pitfalls and hands off to cms-upgrade-status directly when there's an active Execute run to look at. It works on any model and at any phase of the upgrade workflow. It is always available, even if another skill answered with a “call record-skill-start first” message. It can't help if the MCP connection itself is down — see the connection questions above first.
